Pleated Accordion Knitting Pattern – Checkered 3D Knit

Are you on the lookout for new and interesting patterns to try out? You might be interested in our new Pleated Accordion Knitting Pattern, which we’ve recently uploaded to our YouTube channel.

This pattern is much more volumetric than any other basic knitting pattern out there, as it consists of a series of knits and purls that form a checkered surface that give lots of  3D volume to the fabric, making it look like an accordion. It gives the piece a lot of texture and depth.

To get started with this pattern, you’ll need some basic knitting supplies, including your favorite yarn, knitting needles, and a stitch marker. You’ll also need to know how to do some basic stitches, like knit and purl. It is a simple 7-row repetition made of a multiple of 10 plus 1 (like 10+10+10+1 = 31)

INSTRUCTIONS:

Pleated Accordion Stitch.

Multiple of 10 plus 1. Example 30+1=31

Use the needles that the yarn calls for.

Repeat from * to *

Row 1.- knit 5, purl 5 end with knit 1.

Rows 2,4,6 and 8.- Knit the knits and purl the purls.

Row 3.- knit 5, purl 5 end with knit 1.

Row 5.- Knit 1, purl 5, knit 5.

Row 7.- Knit 1, purl 5, knit 5.

Repeat these 8 rows for as long as you want your project to be.

One of the great things about this pattern is that it’s customizable – you can adjust the number of stitches and the size of the pleats to create a piece that’s uniquely your own. And because the pleats are created through the pattern itself, you don’t need any special tools or equipment to make them. Make a scarf or a blanket, you are the creative genius!
