With Valentine’s Day approaching, we often wonder…what is a good gift to give that is meaningful, personalized and full of love?
Yes, you can always get the little heart necklace or that tie you saw at the mall, but a handmade item always carries the essence of your love and the personality of the giftee.
We’ve created two Valentine’s Day gift ideas that are super easy to make and can be made with crochet or knitting:
The Quick and Easy Knitted Tie
This is a super simple and easy to make knitted tie pattern you can create in just a little time. A unique gift idea to be made with your (ar his/hers) favorite color. Dressing up any outfit with a handmade gift from the heart.
The Rosehip Knitting Pattern is also very unique and volumetric.
Great pattern for practicing your wyf (with yarn in front) and wyb (with yarn in back) stitches.
Here are the instructions:
FOR THE TIE: With #4 yarn and #8US needles Cast on 15 stitches
Knit 21 inches With Rosehip Stitch Change to garter stitch
Take off 1 stitch on each side every other row, 3 times
You end up with 9 stitches.
Knit until you have 58 inches from the beginning.
ROSEHIP STITCH: Multiple of 4 + 3 I am using Red Heart Chic Sheep yarn (#4) Number 8US knitting needles
K=knit P=purl wyf=with the yarn in front of your work wyb=with the yarn in the back of your work

The Tunisian Crochet Tablet Case
A great video to learn not only to learn how to make this tablet sleeve but also learning how to measure for different tablets, laptops or mobile device cases (so you can calculate how many stitches to cast on, etc). You’ll even learn how to make a very beautiful Tunisian Smock pattern that is volumetric and intricate. Very elegant.
In this tutorial, we suggest using Red Heart Soft Yarn , which is our sponsor.
Here are the instructions:
Tunisian (Afghan) Smock Stitch
Use 2 sizes larger tunisian hook that what the yarn calls for.
NOTE: “YO”=yarn over your needle, picking up the yarn from back to front.
yo= yarn over your hook the normal way.
Repeat from * to * All the rows back are the same:
Row back.- *yo, take off 1, yo, take off 2* Make even number of chains.
Base rows: Pick up the back of the chains (bumps).
You now have the same amount of stitches on your hook as the number of chains you made.
Make Row back. Start with Stitch
Row 1.- You have 1 stitch on your hook, *”YO”, pick up 2 strands together*, “YO”, pick up the chain on the side. You now have an extra stitch on your hook (odd number) Make Row Back.
Row2.= You have 1 stitch on your hook, pick up the first strand from the V, *“YO”, pick up next 2 strands* finish with “YO” pick up the last strand and pick up the chain on the side.
You have that extra stitch on your hook (odd number) Make Row Back. Repeat last 2 rows for pattern.
To finish, *pick up each strand and pass through the stitch on the hook. Cut yarn and pass through the last loop on hook.
