5 Unique Knitting Stitch Patterns You Must Try Today

We’ve been coming across some really fun, intricate knitting patterns that have become almost viral and we’d love to share them with you. Along with some ideas, of course.

The Little Hearts Pattern 💕

This beautiful lace knitted pattern is made of very easy to follow double turns and shifting of needle instructions with only two rows.

The result is this very textured, heart pattern that is simply lovely for anything from a little girl’s dress to a fun, throw cushion.

Here are the instructions:

Work on even number of stitches.

Use the needles that the yarn calls for or a little larger.

Repeat from * to * Row 1.- Knit1 * knit each stitch with double turn around the needle*, end with knit1.

Row 2.- Knit1, *Unravel 2 stitches from the left needle to the right, return to the left needle, knit the second stitch through the first, knit the first, take off* end with knit 1.

Repeat these 2 rows.

The Twisted Stitch 🌪

One of the most fun, yet simplest knitting stitch patterns we’ve encountered. And we tried finding a source but could not find one, so we made our own tutorial.

A blanket may even look quite interesting with this one.

A large coat, perhaps?

If you’re interested in getting the same look as we did on the video, you will want to get a color-changing yarn like Caron Simply Soft ‘Soft Paints’ Yarn

Instructions:

Worked on any number of stitches.

Use 1 or 2 sizes larger needles than what the yarn calls for. This is a thick woven stitch.

On every row, pass the first stitch as if to purl with yarn in the back when you knit, with the yarn in front when you purl.

Pass= pass the stitch as if to purl.

Repeat from * to * Cast on your stitches any way you prefer. Base Row: Purl.

Row 1.- Pass1), *between the next 2 stitches, pick up and knit from the row below, and pass the first stitch as if to purl* knit the last stitch.

Row 2.- Pass 1), *purl the next 2 stitches together*, purl the last stitch Repeat these 2 rows.

Bind off on an all knit row, after row 2.

The French Fan Lace

What a wonderful and underrated stitch!

Have you ever seen anything so beautiful?

When you find an intricate stitch like this, it’s hard to decide what to do with it, you really just want to frame it, right?

Well, you can simply start with a scarf and then expand to other stunning masterpieces.

Instructions

Multiple of 12 + 2 for borders

k=knit

p=purl

(pyo,ps,pyo) purl the yarn over after next stitch, purl the next stitch and purl the yarn over again then take the 2 stitches out of left needle.

Repeat from * to *

Row 1.- k1 *k12,* end with k1

Row 2.- k1, *k2, p8, k2,* end with k1

Row 3.- k1, *k2, yo, p8, yo, k2,* end with k1

Row 4.- k1, *k2, p1, k8, p1, k2,* end with k1

Row 5.- k1, *k3, yo, k8, yo, k3,* end with k1

Row 6.- k1, *k2, p12, k2,* end with k1

Row 7.- k1, *k4, yo, k8 together through back of stitches, yo, k4,* end with k1

Row 8.- k1, *k2, p3, (pyo,ps,pyo), p2, k2,* end with k1

Repeat these 8 rows.

Bind off after last row, knitwise.

The Roof Tiles Stitch 🏠

This pattern was inspired by the Undulating Edge Knitting Pattern video tutorial we had made a little while back. It’s basically a continuation of that same repetition but with a few changes to make the tiles interspaced.

Instructions:

Multiple of 8 plus 6.

16 row repeat.

Use the needles that the yarn calls for.

I used #4 yarn and #8 US needles for the video.

Cast on your stitches. I used the long tail (butterfly) cast on. Repeat from * to *

Row 1.- Purl

Row 2.- Knit

Row 3.- *knit 6, pass 2 stitches (without knitting), purl-wise, with the yarn in the front, to the right needle*, knit the last 6 stitches.

Row 4.- *purl 6, pass 2 stitches (without knitting), purl-wise, with the yarn in the back, to the right needle*, purl the last 6 stitches.

Row 5.- Same as Row 3: *knit 6, pass 2 stitches (without knitting), purl-wise, with the yarn in the front, to the right needle*, knit the last 6 stitches.

Row 6.- Same as Row 4: *purl 6, pass 2 stitches (without knitting), purl-wise, with the yarn in the back, to the right needle*, purl the last 6 stitches.

Row 7.- Same as Row 3 and 5: *knit 6, pass 2 stitches (without knitting), purl-wise, with the yarn in the front, to the right needle*, knit the last 6 stitches.

Row 8.- Purl

Row 9.- Purl

Row 10.- Knit

Row 11.- knit 2, *pass 2 stitches (without knitting), purl-wise, with the yarn in the front, to the right needle*, knit 6*. Finish row (last 4 stitches) with pass 2 stitches (without knitting), purl-wise, with the yarn in the front, to the right needle and knit 2.

Row 12.- purl 2, *pass 2 stitches (without knitting), purl-wise, with the yarn in the back, to the right needle, purl 6*, Finish row (last 4 stitches) with pass 2 stitches (without knitting), purl-wise, with the yarn in the back, to the right needle and purl 2.

Row 13.- Same as Row 11: knit 2, *pass 2 stitches (without knitting), purl-wise, with the yarn in the front, to the right needle*, knit 6*. Finish row (last 4 stitches) with pass 2 stitches (without knitting), purl-wise, with the yarn in the front, to the right needle and knit 2.

Row 14.- Same as Row 12: purl 2, *pass 2 stitches (without knitting), purl-wise, with the yarn in the back, to the right needle, purl 6*, Finish row (last 4 stitches) with pass 2 stitches (without knitting), purl-wise, with the yarn in the back, to the right needle and purl 2.

Row 15.- Same as Row 11 and 13: knit 2, *pass 2 stitches (without knitting), purl-wise, with the yarn in the front, to the right needle*, knit 6*. Finish row (last 4 stitches) with pass 2 stitches (without knitting), purl-wise, with the yarn in the front, to the right needle and knit 2.

Row 16.- Purl. Repeat these 16 rows for pattern.
