When choosing these 10 patterns, that are all free for you, I wanted to get a little bit of everything. There is everything from pencil cases and bookmarks, to backpacks and an apple that can stay on the teacher’s desk all year-’round without fear of rotting! Some of these Free Back to School Crochet Patterns are more for the younger students and some for older ones… some would be great for students of all ages or even for their teachers. #1: Cozy Messenger Bag from FiberFlux

 

This messenger bag whips up easily as it’s just two squares and an adjustable, cross-body strap made from super bulky yarn. You can choose any colors you wish so it can be made for a student or teacher of any gender or it can even be made to show off school colors. Because of the cross-body design, if the contents of the bag get heavy, it won’t wear on the shoulder. This is a common problem with students and teachers today so being able to alleviate that problem while also being stylish AND having something hand-made to show off? Sign me up!

#2: The Turban Hat

Turban hats are in and have been for a long time. Younger people don’t just wear them in the winter even. It’s a fashion statement, and it’s not just for women but also for kids.

#3: Crocheted Backpack

YarnPlaza has an excellent free Back to School crochet pattern for a backpack. The pattern includes both a chart and written instructions so this pattern is super simple. Plus, with all the colors involved, this would be really easy to customize for any student or teacher’s personal color tastes. Once again, because multiple colors are involved, this would be a very easy pattern to also customize to school colors, whether that be K-12 or college level. You could even make one for each school they attend and put the pictures and keepsakes that they have during their years at that school inside the backpack. Great way to keep track of those memories!

#4: Crochet Pencil Pouch

What if your pencil pouch really looked like a pencil? How cool would that be? Well, this free crochet pattern by Repeat Crafter Me IS a crocheted pencil pouch that looks like a pencil. It’s so easy to make and with simple, one-button closure, it is perfect for teaching small fingers how to work buttons and letting them get the feel for it. If your child is particularly young, you could make the button bigger so it’s easier to grab onto. But this would be great for teachers as well. For a teacher, you could even make a red pencil. Everyone knows how much teachers love those red pencils!

#5: Shark Time Pouch

This pencil pouch carries a lot more than the pencil pouch above. In this one, you can carry markers and bigger items. Plus, it has a zipper instead of a button in case your student has a bit of trouble still with buttons. And, you just can’t get over the fact that it looks like a shark – big, white teeth and all!

#6: Back to School Crochet – Apples!

Every teacher loves getting an apple from a student on the first day of class. However, if they get a few, they are going to be eating apples for quite a while and some might go bad. What if you could give an apple to your teacher that would never go bad and could sit on their desk for the entire year? You can do that with a crocheted apple. This free pattern by 5 Little Monsters will show you how to crochet apples! You can make a green apple or a red one, or even one of each. Get creative and make a basket of crocheted apples to have the receptionist put on a table in the teacher’s lounge. #7: Drawstring Marker Case

I always wanted to carry my markers around (and I still do, with the advent of the adult coloring books) in something that would make the markers easy to go through without having to pull them all out when I wanted to find one specific color. With this drawstring marker case, you can pull the top down to reveal the tops of all of the markers so you know exactly what colors you are choosing. Plus, when you set the bottom of the case down on a flat surface, it stands up so you have your own marker cup. The drawstring makes it easy to close and bring your markers with you wherever you go. INSTRUCTIONS:

Stretchy Fingerless Gloves (Single Crochet)
#4- Worsted Yarn (1 ball of 3.5-170 yards)
or 2 strands of baby yarn, used together.
Size G crochet hook.
Make 31 chains, turn, single crochet on the second chain from hook and the first row=30
Chain 1, turn and single crochet the next row, through the back of the loop.
Make 26 rows in total or until the piece goes around the palm of your hand, snuggly.
You will have the beginning strand and the end strand in opposite sides.
Fold piece, with the ridges going alongside your hand.
With one strand, sew about 2” or a little less, turn inside out, make knot and weave end.
With the other strand, sew until you have an opening of about 2” or a little less, left, without sewing, to fit the thumb. Turn, make a knot and weave in end.
